Solid Granny Square Baby Blanky
Posted by VickyC on January 21st, 2011As I mentioned in my previous post, I have been very busy during the last few weeks crocheting a baby blanky!
No, no. It’s not for me.. it’s for a friend.
I had a lot of blankets crocheted for me by my great grandmother. And I must say that making this blanket has really made me appreciate how much work my great grandma put into making all of the blankets for me.
The blanket I’m making is a solid granny square. I got the pattern from the back of the baby wool tag. Well, no. I’m sort of following the pattern.. But not exactly..
I’m not such a good instruction follower..!
I like this type of granny square, because it’s less holey than the traditional granny squares – so it should be warmer? I hope so!
I’m using white and an antique white wool. It’s so soft! I cant wait to see what it’s going to look like when it’s done!
The pattern was 5 x 5 squares, but I’m doing 5 x 6 – just so it’s a bit bigger, and I think square blankets are weird.. blankets should be rectangular..
Out of the 30 squares, 22 are completely finished. And the remaining 8 need the outer round to be completed – which I can finish today.
So you can see how the square in the top picture isn’t finished – its missing the white boarder that you can see in the bottom picture.
After I’ve stitched them all together, I’m going to do another row all around the blanket, and then a scalloped edge. And then it will be finished and PERFECT!
I can’t wait to send it to my friends!
Their baby was early, and instead of being born next month was born last weekend! But mummy and baby are fine and back at home. which is excellent news!
So for the time being, I’m going to leave you with this picture of all the squares. You can see which ones are finished and which ones are not by the colour difference
I’m hoping to have this blanky done by the end of the weekend!
I wish you all a lovely weekend!
